 | Eudora Profiles v.2.1
I know there are many people, like myself, who either need to have or like to have a number of people using the same PC, and the same copy of Eudora, but with their own mailboxes, address books, preferences, etc., in fact what we might call a number of different "profiles".
Eudora Pro, of course, has its use of "personalities", which goes some way to supplying this need. However, these personalities do not allow for a whole different set of mailboxes for each user. Without the use of filters, everything that comes in, for whichever personality, goes into the same In-box. Something else is needed to separate the setup for one user completely from that for another user.
Eudora does allow for this, but its suggested way of doing it is somewhat messy, takes time, and can be daunting for some folk! This is what the Eudora help-file suggests:
| Putting Multiple Users on One PC |
|---|
| To have multiple users on one PC, make a separate mail directory and create shortcuts to the Eudora executable for each user. The mail directories can be named whatever you like, and put anywhere you like, including on floppies or network drives. To tell Eudora which directory to use, specify that directory in the Target field of your shortcut. |
What this little program, "Eudora Profiles", does is to automate this process for you. It allows you to create up to 10 separate profiles, with their own directories, and to choose them from a drop-down list.
At the request of one Eudora user, I have even added a simple form of password protection (though, since all Eudora mailboxes are basically text-files, no form of password protection alone can ensure complete security - for that you have to use some form of encryption, such as PGP).
By the way, being British, I thought a British red "pillar-box" was more attractive as an icon than the standard Eudora icon of an American-style mailbox - hence the icon.
Download Eudora Profiles (24Kb) and distribute it as you like. It is written to be usable on Windows 3.x or Windows 95/98.

 | Eudora Address Book Manager v.3.3
Eudora's address book is not bad, but I have found it rather tedious to use when I have wanted to (for example) change the nicknames of entries, add postal-addresses, telephone numbers, notes, etc. All that changing from tab to tab, right-clicking on a nickname to re-name it...!!!
This little program allows you to load either one or two address books into the two "frames", manipulate them, copy from one to the other, find an instance of the same e-mail address which is in one file, in the other, etc. You can now also search for a word or phrase (e.g. a nickname or e-mail address, etc.) in the current file, and find any addresses that are duplicated between the two files. There is a fairly comprehensive help file which describes all the possibilities. Version 3.0 is a bit bigger than version 2.0, but very much better! It includes now (version 3.3) the facility to extract e-mail addresses from mailboxes, examining the "From:", "To:" or "Cc:" fields; and you can now export your Eudora Addressbooks as CSV (Comma-separated values) files, for import into other programs. There are also one or two other minor improvements..
Download Eudora Address Book Manager (44Kb) and distribute it as you like. It is written to be usable on Windows 3.x or Windows 95/98.
See note below regarding auxiliary files...
|
 | Auxiliary files For both these programs, you will need to have the file VBRUN300.DLL installed on your system, in the \Windows\System directory/folder.
In addition, for the Address Book Manager, you will need to have the files CMDIALOG.VBX and COMMDLG.DLL installed in your \Windows\System directory/folder.
If you do not have these files, they may be downloaded from here in the file AUXFILES.ZIP (280Kb)
If you are downloading only Eudora Profiles (and so will not need CMDIALOG.VBX and COMMDLG.DLL), you may like to download just VBRUN300.DLL (zipped) (224Kb).
If you prefer ease of use, and do not mind downloading bigger files, there are complete setup programs for each of the programs (in both 16-bit and 32-bit format), which will install the programs just as you want them, along with all the necessary files, and with a proper uninstall facility. Choose from the table below:
Note: When your computer asks whether you want to execute these programs or save them to disk, choose "Save to disk", then run them from the directory or folder where you saved them.
The 16-bit versions place an "Uninstall" icon in the program group or folder, while the 32-bit version adds the programs to the list of installed programs: to uninstall, go to Control Panel > Add-Remove Programs.
