Liverpool

Liverpool grew up as a seaport, and its docks were among the finest in the world. Most of the former twelve miles of docks have now been closed, though the newer container docks at Seaforth handle as much traffic as in the days of Liverpool's glory, if not more. Today, the Albert Dock, one of the earliest of those built in Liverpool's hey-day, converted into a museum and shopping area, attracts visitors from all over the world. And the River Mersey, with its mile-wide estuary, its elegant waterfront, and its ferries, is still one of the sights of Northern England. Here are some pictures of this area.
